Six Conventional Maintenance Points For Car Brake Shoes

Oct 20, 2021

Commonly known as brake pads, the shape of the brake shoe is like a half-moon shape, which refers to the accessory that is pushed to the outside due to the amount of action of the brake cam or push rod, and suppresses the brake drum to act as a brake.

The frequency of use of brake shoes is actually very high. It should be the parts that are replaced more frequently among auto parts.

Brake pads, also known as brake shoes, will gradually wear out during use. When worn to the limit, the brake shoes must be replaced, otherwise it will not only reduce the braking effect, but even cause a safety accident. Brake shoes must be treated with caution, which is related to life safety.

Many cars use the front disc and rear drum brake structure. Generally, the front brake shoes wear quickly, and the rear brake shoes have a longer use time. The following points should be paid attention to in daily inspection and maintenance

1. Under normal driving conditions, it is necessary to check the brake shoes every 5000 kilometers. Not only check the wear status of the shoes, but also check the remaining thickness, whether the return is free, whether the degree of wear on both sides is the same, etc., and abnormalities are found The situation should be dealt with in time.

  2. The brake shoe is generally composed of two parts, an iron lining plate and a friction material. After a part of the friction material is worn, the shoe should not be replaced. For example, the front brake shoe of a Jetta car has a replacement limit of 7mm, including a friction material thickness of nearly 4mm and an iron liner thickness of 3mm or more. The thickness of the new piece is 14mm. Once the wear limit is reached, some vehicles have a brake shoe alarm function, and the instrument will give an alarm to remind the shoe to be replaced. The shoe that reaches the limit of use must be replaced, and the braking effect will be reduced. Even if it can be used for a period of time, it will affect driving safety.

  3. When replacing, replace the brake pads provided by the factory parts. The braking effect between the brake pads and the brake disc is better and the wear is small.

  4. When replacing the shoe, the brake cylinder needs to be pushed back, but special tools must be used. Do not press hard with other crowbars. The guide screw of the brake caliper is bent, and the brake pad is easy to jam.

  5. After replacing the shoe, in order to eliminate the gap between the shoe and the brake disc, you must step on the brakes. If there is no brake, accidents are likely to occur.

  6. After replacing the brake shoes, you must be familiar with 200 kilometers to achieve better braking effect. The shoe that has just been replaced must be driven carefully.
